Atha VanDon Greer

Mr. Atha VanDon Greer, age 86 of Rutherford, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Graveside services for Mr. Greer will be conducted on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 2PM at Rutherford Cemetery with Bro. Myron Greer officiating, and Cooper Emerson speaking. Interment will immediately follow.

He was born April 20, 1940, in Dyer, TN; the son of the late Atha Earl & Katherine McKeel Greer. VanDon was a founding member of Station 9 Rescue Squad, Alderman on the Rutherford City Board, and loved to fish. He worked as a mechanic, a dozier operator, and was a truck driver before his retirement. He was of the Assembly of God faith, and was a Vietnam Veteran serving with the US Navy.

Mr. Greer is survived by daughter, Robbie Emerson and husband, Jeff; brother, Myron Greer and wife, Linda; sister-in-law, Kay Greer; grandson, Dusty Emerson and wife, Beverly; and two great-grandchildren, Cooper Emerson, and Annalia Emerson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca ‘Becky’ Greer; and brother, Larry Greer.

The family will receive friends at the Rutherford Cemetery beginning at 1:30PM, Saturday, October 3, 2026. Karnes & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mr. Atha VanDon Greer.
