Bitsy Bynum Gilliland

Mrs. Bitsy Bynum Gilliland, age 76 of Dyer, Tennessee, passed away from this life on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at home. Graveside services for Mrs. Gilliland will be conducted on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 11AM in Oakwood Cemetery with Bro. Lane Self officiating.

She was born July 19, 1946, in Saltillo, MS; the daughter of the late Mitchell L. & Marjorie (Beard) Bynum. Bitsy served as a member of the Board of Aldermen from 2005 – 2014 and retired as an Administrative Assistant from Gibson County Sheriff’s Department. Bitsy and her husband, Bob, owned and operated Gilliland’s Tea Room, from 1989 till 1997, in Dyer. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Dyer and was a long-time member of the Dyer Station Celebration Committee, as she loved being involved in her community.

Bitsy is survived by sister-in-law, Liz Isabell; two nephews, John Mark Somers, Jeff Somers; and two great-nephews, Tyler Bynum, and Cooper Mitchell Bynum. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bob Gilliland; siblings, Judy Somers, Ronnie Beard Bynum Sr., Terry Kirk Bynum; and nephew, Ronnie Beard Bynum Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are asked to be made in memory of Bitsy to:  First Baptist Church in Dyer, or Gibson County Humane Society Shelter.
