Catherine Littlejohn

Catherine Ellen Wofford  Littlejohn, 76, of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully Tuesday, the 14th of May 2019 at her home surrounded by her family after a lengthy illness.

She was born the 24th of December 1942 in Spartanburg, SC, daughter of the late Benjamin Foster Wofford and Catherine Mildred Pressley Wofford.  Having lived in Spartanburg and Greenville, SC, she came to Charlotte as a young lady and was a member of the first graduating class of Garinger High School in 1961.  Catherine was associated with Southern Photo Print and Supply Co. for twenty years and was an incredible designer of interiors.  She was an accomplished seamstress and personally made her children’s clothing and even taught her daughter-in-law to sew.

She was a longtime member of Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church in Charlotte, where she served as Sunday school teacher, Usher, Youth Director and was a member of the Friendship Sunday school class.

While her three children were growing up the door to her home was always open and welcomed to their friends.  Although she and her husband had the three – they raised many more over the years.  She passed this same trait of “Foundation of Love and Family”, to her own children.  More than anything, her family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her ultimate success in life.

After the children were out of the home, she and her husband loved to travel throughout the US, but probably drove every road in North and South Carolina enjoying going thru Antique and Thrift Stores looking for her next little treasure.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Stanley Littlejohn, Sr.; her three children: Christina Littlejohn Helms and Michael; Sherry Denise Littlejohn and Jerry and Dave Littlejohn and Kim; her seven grandchildren: Trey Starnes and Kaitlin, Meghan Moore and Heyward, Brad Littlejohn and Julianne, Michelle Smith and Shane, Brandon Littlejohn, Benjamin Helms and Holly and Addison DeJesus – Lessing and Mat; two great-grandchildren: Cheyenne Littlejohn and Ellie Smith and two additional on the way; one brother, Benjamin Gary Wofford and Linda; two sisters: Joy Wofford Coble and Van and Rita Petosky and Ted and many nieces and nephews.  Last but not least her precious, “Pretty Boy”, her faithful cocker spaniel.

The Littlejohn family will greet friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Thursday, the 15th of May 2019 at Ellington Funeral Services.  A private graveside will be held on Friday with The Reverend Frank Jolly, officiating.  Bearing the casket of Mrs. Littlejohn will be her grandsons.
