Donna Allen

March 5, 1946 — March 29, 2017

Donna Jean Allen went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 29, 2017 at the age of 71 after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 5, 1946 to Walter and Dorothy Lis. As a young girl, she loved and helped raise her younger brothers and sisters, Patsy Lis, Walter Lis (Rogene), Dennis Lis (Carmella), Tina Goldman, Diane Atchison (Vince), and Marty Lis (Diane Mandel). On September 24, 1966, she married the love of her life, William (Bill) Allen. They built a life together in Dyer, TN with their two children, Lisa Siler (Keith) and Shane Allen. Donna was no stranger to battles. She fought cancer in 2000, she lost Bill to cancer in 2003, and she lost Shane to a car accident in 2010. Through all these battles, she fought forward, never giving in. She was a very strong soul and this was clear by the way she lived her life right up until the very end. She retired in 2009 after a fulfilling career as a human resources manager. She was a member of the Dyer First United Methodist Church. She was also active in her community as a volunteer for the local election commission, a hospice volunteer, and a member of the YMCA. She loved to travel the world with her lifelong friends, and she always enjoyed coming home to her grandchildren. She loved nothing more than watching Jake and Emma play whatever sport happened to be in season. She was also very close to her nieces and nephews, Tammy Lis, Michael Lis, Christopher Lis, Daniel Lis, Crystal Sloan, Valerie Atchison, and Vince Atchison. As it turns out, her whole life was marked by loving and caring for all the children in her family. Visitation will be on Saturday, April 1, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Karnes and Son Funeral Home in Dyer, TN. Funeral services will be Sunday, April 2, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with graveside services at Poplar Grove cemetery. Donna requested either flowers or memorials to Dyer First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 263 Dyer, TN 38330.
