Dorothy Phyllis King Clark, 93, went home to be with her Lord early in the morning of August 18th, 2026 at the Dyer Nursing Home.
She was born on May 26, 1933, southwest of Rutherford, Tennessee, the ninth of eleven children. She grew up in the Old Taylor House, surrounded by love, encouragement, and protection of her parents and siblings – a foundation that formed some of her most cherished memories in her later years. In 1954 she moved to Gary, Indiana, with her husband and two children, where they welcomed three more children before returning to Rutherford in 1971. She worked at the Kellwood factories in Rutherford and Trenton until her retirement.
Dorothy attended school at King’s Chapel (also known as Rabbit Hill), a two-room schoolhouse southwest of Rutherford, and later attended Rutherford High School for one year. She was a member of Old Bethlehem Baptist Church in her youth and a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Rutherford from 1971 onward.
She is survived by four children: Jack Clark (Ruth Ann) of Soddy Daisy, TN; Eddy Clark (Christine) of Byron, GA; Benny Clark (Linda) of Trenton; and Tina Blaylock (Darrell) of Fort Payne, AL. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: John David Goldsmith (Janice), Matt Clark (Kari), Jennifer Winters (Jason) of Perry, GA, Stan Clark (Kimberly), Wesley Clark (Emily) of Dyer, TN, Taylor Jackson of Manchester, TN, and Killian Jackson of Fort Payne, AL; as well as 10 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
Additionally, she is survived by one brother, Billy Joe King of Clarksville, TN, and one sister-in-law, Alice Nell King of Jackson, TN.
She was proceeded in death by her husband of 60 years, Gene Clark; her parents, David Bailey King and Lou Ozella Garner King; her daughter Kathy Kruger, and nine siblings: Emerson King, James Cecil King, Ralph King, Robert King, Laverda May King Crouse, Grace King Hall Eakes, Clarice Marie King Warren, Larry King, and Walter Wayne King.
Services will be conducted at Karnes and Son Funeral Home in Rutherford, Tennessee. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026 from 12-2 PM, with the funeral service to follow at 2PM. Burial will follow in the Rutherford Cemetery.
