Dortha Thornton

Mrs. Dortha Kathleen Thornton, age 88 of Dyer, Tennessee, passed away from this life on November 6, 2015, at Milan General Hospital. Funeral services for Mrs. Thornton will be conducted on Monday, November 9, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Karnes & Son Funeral Home in Rutherford with Benny McVay and Roger Utter officiating. Interment will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery near Trenton, Tennessee. Mrs. Thornton was born December 31, 1926; the daughter of the late Slaton Brown and Nannie Bell Wade Grimes. Mrs. Thornton was retired employee of the Kellwood Company in Rutherford, and a member of the Tri City Church of Christ. Mrs. Thornton is survived by three sons, Joe Grimes and wife Dorothy; John Thornton and wife Carol; Dale Thornton and wife Sheila Kay; and one daughter, Kay Sweatt; five grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren; and three sisters, Helen Gathins, Alice Hanks and Patricia Faye Edwards. Mrs. Thornton was preceded in death by her husband John Wade Thornton, a daughter, Joy Thornton, and great grandchildren Nichols Alden Sweatt, and Justin Kolwyck. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2015 in the chapel of Karnes and Son Funeral Home in Rutherford.
