Dr. Donald "Don" Wayne Holland

Dr. Donald “Don” Wayne Holland, age 80, of Dyer, Tennessee, passed away from this life peacefully on May 14, 2024.

Don was born June 24, 1943, in McNairy County TN. He was the son of Eber Cleo Holland and Margie Bell Stausell Holland.

Don’s education began in McNairy County. He studied Physics and Mathematics at Union University, Mathematics at Auburn University National Science Foundation Scholarship, and studied Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). Don received his Doctorate in Research and Statistics from the University of Memphis.

Don’s first teaching assignment was at Springhill School in Gibson County. He served as a charter faculty member of Dyersburg State Community College, serving as Professor of Mathematics for 34 years. He retired from DSCC in 2003 and served an additional 4 years as Adjunct Professor of Mathematics. His joy was teaching others about his love of mathematics and statistics. 

He was an accomplished classical pianist, singer, Minister of Music and Youth Director for various churches. He had a special interest in photography and shared his photos of animals, especially of Eagles, Egrets, and Osprey. This love of photography was shared for many years with his wife Brenda. His photos have been featured at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.

Don’s love of family, friends and acquaintances was shown in his daily living. He enjoyed sharing his life, knowledge, and talents with others. Don had family that included grandparents, siblings, uncles, aunts, and cousins. 
Don held the position of Alderman of Dyer from July 1, 1987- June 30, 1991, and Mayor of Dyer from July1, 1991 to June 30, 1995, he served his community with integrity. His influence and encouragement to others extended beyond his time served. 

Don was an antique enthusiast and collector of Art and History.

Proceeded in death by his parents Eber Cleo Holland and Margie Bell Stausell Holland, his wife Brenda Faye Rickman Holland of 55 years of marriage.

Don attended First Baptist Church in Dyer. He was loved and respected by all who knew him.

Graveside services for Dr. Donald Wayne Holland will be conducted
Sunday May 19, 2024, at 3:00 PM, at the Oakwood Cemetery in Dyer, with Bro. Lane Self, Kenny Marvin and Bro. Marlon Stephens officiating. Interment will follow.
