November 18th, 1926 - February 12th, 2019
Jane Williams Griffin of Dyer passed away February 12, 2019 in Nashville, TN at the age of 92.
Jane was born and raised in Memphis, TN with her parents Zeke and Fleta Williams; brothers Robert and Richard; and sister Anne. She graduated from Messick High School during the era of World War II, rationing and volunteering at the USO for soldiers stationed in Memphis. During this time, she met a soldier back from the Pacific front, and married him in 1948. Despite her hesitance to leave the big city, she moved with Charles Griffin to Dyer, raised a family there, and worked with him at their business, Griffin TV.
Jane was very active in her church, Dyer First Baptist, all her life in Dyer. She was also active in the Order of the Eastern Star during the 50’s and 60’s, and volunteered with other organizations. She was always ready with a pie or casserole if there were someone sick or bereaved in town, and was a wonderful seamstress.
She leaves behind her daughters, Janie Griffin Gray of Nashville, and Melanie Griffin (Randy) Hill of Mt. Juliet, TN; grandchildren, Shannon and Nathan (Brie) Gray, and Morgan Hill; and two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Nolan Gray.
A graveside service (at her request) will be conducted on Sunday, February 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery near the white gazebo. If there is interest, conversations can be moved to the ‘Toot n Tell It’ down the street afterwards. In case of rain, the service will be held in the Karnes and Son Dyer Chapel in Dyer, TN.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Dyer First Baptist Church’s Mission Fund or to the National Veterans Foundation, a highly rated charity which provides assistance to veterans (nvf.org). Janie Griffin Gray and Melanie Griffin Hill can be contacted through Facebook or through Karnes and Son Funeral Home in Dyer.
