Floyd Moon, Jr., a life-long resident of Kenton, Obion County, Tennessee, gained his angel wings on the 4th of May, 2026. Floyd was the eldest son of Floyd Moon, Sr. and Annie Kate (Callins) Moon, both of Dyer, Gibson County, Tennessee. When Floyd was only 6 months old, he was taken in and raised by his maternal grandparents, Buster and Nancy Callins in Kenton.
After graduating from Kenton High School in 1973, he began his working career with Reelfoot Packing Company in Union City, Tennessee. Floyd worked there until the plant closed its doors in 1993. He was one of the last 4 to leave the plant. Two weeks later he was employed with World Color Press (later became Quebecor World, Inc.) and remained there until the plant closed its doors in April of 2010.
In 1979, Floyd was saved during a revival at New Concord Baptist Church and became a lifelong member and servant of the Lord that included becoming a Deacon for many years. His wife Dorothy changed her membership from Church of Christ to New Concord, later being on the Board of Directors and served as the decorator for the church.
In his youth he loved to hunt and fish. Fishing became a favorite pastime when he married his soul mate Dorothy Sue “Ms. Pepper” (Emerson) Freeze in January of 1977. When he proposed to Dorothy, she said “Sure, and I give it 6 months.” After a few years they decided to go out on a limb and go to Florida for a 2-week vacation. They loved it so much, they returned to the same little spot for several years. When their 25th anniversary rolled around, he asked her if they were still working on that original 6 months. Then, he surprised her with ½ Carat diamond earrings. When Dorothy gained her angel wings in September of 2018, they had been married 41 years.
Although Floyd was quiet and reserved to many, he had a great deal of interests. He watched wrestling every chance he got, watched the NBA games until his favorite players retired. He couldn’t wait for the new TV Guide each week so he could solve the crossword puzzles. Floyd really was a very intelligent individual. As he got older, he liked watching old westerns from the 60’s and earlier, he liked the old game shows and would laugh when he could guess the answers before the contestants could. One of the last shows he could not get enough of was “Everybody Loves Raymond”. He loved just about anything when it came to mealtime, but his favorite was Strawberry Shortcake and Twinkies and wanted his Diet Pepsi to wash it down.
Along with his parents he was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Dorothy, younger brother Frankie Moon, Stepson James Michael Gibson, grandson Corey Gibson, step son-in-law Tiller Floyd Jr. and his younger sister, Gladys Tucker.
He is survived by his stepson Two-Cam McLaren of Bangor, MI, stepdaughters Jane (McLaren) Grojean of Dyersburg, TN, and Virginia “Ginger” (Gibson) Floyd of Newbern, TN, brother Freddie Moon of McKenzie, TN, sister Linda Forrest. He also leaves to cherish his memory his 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at New Concord Baptist Church in Kenton on Monday, July 6 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Burial of his remains will be during this time.
