Frieda Thornton, age 92 of Trenton, Tennessee, died June 2, 2026, at NHC Nursing Home in Milan. Funeral services will be held June 9, 2026, at the Dyer chapel of Karnes & Son Funeral Home. Pastor Steve Skelton will officiate. She will be buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Dyer.
She was born in Kenton, TN July 1st, 1933. She is the daughter of Elbert Boyd and Effie Caton Boyd King. She retired from Kellwood garment factory and attended Dyer First Baptist Church.
She is survived by three children, Phyllis Crenshaw (Gordon), Ronny Thornton (Sally), Mark Thornton; sisters, Melba Garner (Emerson), Debra Taylor (Earl); half-sisters, Marilyn King, Carolyn King; step-brothers, Clark King Jr., Lamar King, William King, Dr. Elton King; five grandchildren, Brent Thornton, Christopher Crenshaw (Cortney), Nick Crenshaw, Al Thornton (Chasity), Amber Tritt (Darrin); and eight great-great grandchildren, Mykayla Crenshaw, Emily Kail, Ellis Thornton, Thornton Tritt, Crew Tritt, Harrison Crenshaw, Jayson Crenshaw, Arabella Banfield; plus many beloved nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Thornton; son, Michael Thornton; sisters, Alice Reynolds, Brenda Cole and husband, Kenneth, Carolyn Powell; father, Elbert Boyd and mother and stepfather, Effie Caton Boyd King (Clark King Sr.).
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be may to St. Jude (https://www.stjude.org/), in memory of Mrs. Frieda Thornton.
Visitation will be held June 9, 2026, from 10AM until service time at the Dyer chapel. Karnes & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Frieda Thornton.
