Joe T. “Tom” DePriest, 92, of Dyer passed away peacefully September 8 at the Dyer Nursing Home. He was born December 19, 1933, in Gibson County. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary DePriest; father, Charles Freeman DePriest; and sisters, Sylvia Markham and Pat Nowell. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Edna DePriest; daughters, Vickie Lynch and Paula DePriest; grandsons, Nick (Jennifer) Lynch and Ben (Rachel) Lynch; great-grandchildren, James, Ariana, Charlie, Isaac and Henry Lynch; special niece, Marilyn (Damon) Oliver; and brother, Don (Sandra) DePriest.
He was a member of Grier’s Chapel UMC and retired from Goodyear after working many years managing garment factories. He liked to fish and go on church visitation, so his pallbearers are his fishing and church friends: Anthony Carter, Reggie Davidson, Ronnie Garrett, Russ Garrett, Glynn George, and Eston Hurst. Rev. Brent Porterfield will conduct the service at the Karnes & Son Funeral Home at Dyer. He will be buried in the New Bethlehem Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 1PM-2PM, at the Dyer chapel of Karnes & Son Funeral Home, with services beginning at 2PM.
