John David Page

John David Page, 71, died of Leukemia on Saturday, August 8, 2020, at his home in Pensacola, Fla. Completed arrangements are being announced.

John was born October 7, 1948, in Union City, Tennessee, to the late James “Doc” and Elfriede Page of Mason Hall. He graduated high school with honors in 1966 from Mason Hall School. As a 1970 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Arts and achieved his Juris Doctor Degree in 1974 from Memphis State University’s School of Law. John lived a life of continuing education, taking many additional college courses throughout his life.

After 33 years with the U.S. Department of the Navy, he retired in 2016 as the Education Programs and Contract Management Department Head for Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES), ensuring service members worldwide had an opportunity to participate in voluntary education programs. He received the Navy’s Meritorious Civilian Service Award in 2014 for his outstanding performance while serving one year as DANTES Acting Deputy Director. He was a voracious reader and enjoyed yoga and gardening.

John is survived by his two brothers, James Page and wife, Pam; and Steve Page and wife, Kathy, of Mason Hall, Tenn.; three nephews, Jamie Page, of Nashville; Blake Page, of Naples, Fla.; and Chase Page, of Mason Hall; and niece, Heidi Page Stockdale, of Jackson, Tenn.

John will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who will always remember him for his cultural curiosity, analytical mind, well-read intellect, selfless spirit, and serious, yet fun-loving personality.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2020, at New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, 4517 Old Turnpike Rd., Kenton, TN 38233, with Dr. William B. Oakley officiating.
