John Herbert Pfefferle III, age 90 of Kenton, passed away from this life on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. Pfefferle will be conducted on Friday, November 27, 2020 at 4:00 pm in the Kenton chapel of Karnes & Son Funeral Home with Ben Lownsdale officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm on Friday, November 27, 2020.
John was born July 1, 1930 to John Herbert Pfefferle II and Isabel Koontz Pfefferle. He was the 2nd of four boys for the couple. After losing his mother in a house fire, John joined the Air Force at the age of 16. He served for 5 years during the Korean War before being discharged. John's father and the family of his future wife migrated to Chicago for employment. They were employed by the same company, and this would set the pace for the rest of his life. He and Jacqueline Ashmore were married August 16, 1952 and were married for 54 years. She preceded him in death in 2006. They have 4 daughters, Sharon Criswell, Debbie Lownsdale, Darlene Pfefferle and Carol Randall. They also have 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
John had a long career in the trucking industry. He started as a dock hand and worked his way up to a Vice President position in New York. John had many hobbies he pursued over the years. Everything from golf and parachuting to riding his motorcycle. He rode his motorcycle until he was way up in his 80s. Doing things his way and on his own terms was very important to him. His family would like to thank his neighbors in Kenton who were very helpful and understanding about his need for independence and to be at home no matter the impact it had on him. We never could have kept him home without them.
Karnes & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mr. John Herbert Pfefferle III.
