Mr. Linus A. Thornton, age 78 of Baird, Texas, formerly of Dyer, Tennessee, passed away from this life on October 23, 2018, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Thornton will be conducted on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at 3:00 pm at the Dyer Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Bro. Tony Smith and Bro. Brian Morris officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Dyer, Tennessee.
Linus was born August 1, 1940 in Dyer, Tennessee; the son of the late Robert Reed and Juanita Branson Thornton. Linus was a rancher and cattleman. Linus attended Oklahoma State University where he received his bachelor’s degree, and enjoyed riding in rodeo circuits. Linus also met the love of his life, Donna Sue Thornton in Oklahoma, and together they were a wonderful team. They enjoyed all facets of life from farming, ranching, managing cattle operations and hauling cattle, rodeoing, and more. Linus had a wonderful life and enjoyed all its beauty with open skies and open ranges. He was truly a southern cowboy and friend.
Linus is survived by nieces and nephew Anitta Baker, Lee Fink and Luke Collins; and seven great nieces and nephews. Linus was preceded in death by his loving wife Donna; his parents; one sister, Bobbie Collins; and nephew, Robert Baker.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at the Dyer Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
