Lois Cathy Wright

(Lois) “Cathy” Wright, 86, of Jackson, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021, after a short illness. She is preceded in death by Reed, her beloved husband of 52 years. She leaves behind a son, Scott, (Patti); a daughter, Sandra (James Stoecker); her beloved granddaughter, Tori (Jeff Lester); two adored great grandchildren; her sister, Martha Cheshire (Don); brother, Tommy Carter (Duwanda); and many family and friends. Cathy was preceded in death by her sister, Maxine Partain O’Donnell; and brothers, Buford Carter, and Billy Carter. 

She was born in 1935, in Harrisburg, Arkansas, to Bennie and Ethel Carter. After graduating high school in Jonesboro, Cathy moved to Memphis, where she met Reed while working at Orgill Brothers. Together, after a few years in Jackson, they moved to Dyer, and took over the lumber and hardware store, City Lumber Company, creating a successful business; and where they raised their family. Cathy spent most of her final years back in Jackson, on the very street she had lived 60 years before. She loved playing bridge, golf, fishing at Kentucky Lake, reading mysteries, and supporting First United Methodist Church where she was a longtime member in Dyer; and later, Jackson First United Methodist downtown, where she was an enthusiastic volunteer. 

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family asks that memorials be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, RIFA (Jackson), or the Gibson County Memorial Library Foundation.
