Paolo Foscherari

January 1, 1939 — January 20, 2019

Paolo Giuseppe Foscherari, 80, of Charlotte, died Sunday, January 20, 2019, at the Novant Medical Center in Mint Hill, NC.
Paolo was born in Asti, Italy, on January 1, 1939, the son of Batista and Marguerite Nebbia Fosherari. His family owned a winery where he enjoyed stomping grapes. As World War II came to Italy, Paolo befriended many a GI, asking them for any of the sweets they would carry. He never forgot their kindness, and to this day, would give all he could to Veteran organizations as a way of repaying the many kindnesses he experienced from the GI’s as a child.
Paolo took his people skills to the next level by attending the Marino Bocanegra Hotel School in Genoa. He then apprenticed at hotels in France and Italy before working on Italian luxury cruise liners where he criss-crossed the ocean from Genoa to New York and England to Australia. Honing his skills as a bartender, he is further listed in the “Who’s Who of International Bartenders”. After 10 years at sea, he established his home in the United States. He held several prominent management positions in Washington DC premier hotels such as the Omni Shoreham and the Sheraton Park Washington. He also worked in other parts of the country such as the Bella Italia Ristorante and the Fountainbleau Hilton in Miami Beach.
Paolo not only loved people, he loved to be able to converse with them in their native tongue. He was able to fluently speak, read and write in English, Italian, Spanish, French and German, and was conversational in others. He helped others by doing medical interpretations where he accurately interpreted and translated for clients in those languages he spoke. He also did contract work in translation for Choice Translation and Fluent Languages in Charlotte.
Most of all, Paolo loved being around people. He was truly a memorable soul and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Paolo is survived by his wife, Kathy, whom he married on July 27, 1995; two daughters: Kristin Foscherari-Smith and Tanja Foscherari McMillan; four grandchildren: Garrett, Danielle, Luke and Jake; and numerous other family and friends.
Paolo’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for him and for them.
