Mrs. Peggy Joyce Harrell, age 88 of Kenton, Tennessee, passed away from this life on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at home. Funeral services for Mrs. Harrell will be conducted on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at 2PM in the chapel of New Salem Baptist Church in Kenton with Bro. Brent Petty officiating. Interment will follow in New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was born February 2, 1935, and lived all her life in Mason Hall; the daughter of the late Frank & Elizabeth (Green) Owens. She was a homemaker, mother, memama, and a friend to many. She graduated from Mason Hall High School in 1953. She married Alvin Harrell on March 15, 1953. They lived a long happy life together celebrating 63 years of marriage. She has been a member of New Salem Baptist Church for 77 years, serving as church pianist and many other roles for many years. She was well known for her homemade delicious pineapple cakes, banana pudding, and pimento cheese, and she loved more than anything cooking for her family and friends. Her favorite pastime was browsing through her sizeable collection of favorite recipes and cookbooks. She was devoted to her family, and loved every minute she was able to spend with each one of them. 

She is survived by three daughters, Janet Alexander, Joy Carson (Gary), Jennifer Chandler (Todd); brother, Terry Joe Owens; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Carson (Lana), Jamie Carson (Brooke), Adam Alexander (Cheryl), Courtney Dillard (Brandon), Whitney Woods (Nathan), Mary Beth Davidson (Addison), Mason Chandler (Kyndal), Macy Ruth Chandler; and ten great-grandchildren, Julia Carson, Harrison Carson, Ellie Grace Carson, Max Dillard, Chase Alexander, Bradley Alexander, Lizzie Kate Carson, Maddox Davidson, Crews Dillard, and Owen Woods. She was preceded in death by husband, Alvin Harrell (2016); brother, Bobby Owens; sister, Mary Edith Owens; son-in-law, Clint Alexander; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
