Phillip Ray Thompson

Mr. Phillip Ray Thompson, age 84 of Jackson, Tennessee, passed away from this life on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Maplewood Health Care Center. Graveside services for Mr. Thompson will be conducted on Monday, April 6, 2026, at 2PM, at Oakwood Cemetery with Bro. Scott Jewell officiating. Interment will immediately follow.

Phillip was born on August 11, 1941, in Dyer, TN; the son of the late James Macy “J.M.” & Permelia Margaret Boyd Thompson. He retired from Gerdau Jackson Steel Mill and was a member of Dyer First Baptist Church.

He is survived by two sons, Mark Thompson (Ronda), Mike Thompson; sister, Margaret Taylor (Ronnie); three grandchildren, Matt Thompson (Sara), Katie Yarbro (Justin), Brittni Wells (James); and nine great-grandchildren, Jonathan Thompson, Ava Thompson, Avery Thompson, Aven Thompson, Salem Thompson, Oliver Yarbro, Sidney Yarbro, Remi Wells, and Raylee Wells. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janet Thompson; and, daughter-in-law, Natalie Thompson.

Visitation will be held at the Dyer chapel of Karnes & Son Funeral Home, April 6, 2026, beginning 11AM until 1:45PM, then proceed to Oakwood Cemetery for services. Karnes & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mr. Phillip Ray Thompson.
