Reba Vernell Yergin

Reba Vernell Cooper Yergin, age 94, of Kenton, Tennessee went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Monday, March 29, 2021 at her home in Kenton, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 28, 1927 in Dyer, Tennessee to James T. and Ruby (Prince) Cooper.  She was married to Joe Mack Yergin for 60 years. She was crowned Mrs. Rutherford in 1967. She owned a beauty shop in Rutherford for several years and then cooked the best hamburgers at the Chow Wagon. She was known to be a great cook, and for her coconut cake.  She was featured in Crappie World magazine as a “Guiding Granny”, as she was a fishing guide on Kentucky Lake with her dear friend, Ruby Hugueley. Her love for the water and the fishing pole led to many great times at the lake where time was spent with family and friends. She was an avid fan of Elvis Presley and Conway Twitty. Later in life, she had a love for westerns and gospel music, and loved her dear puppy, Lily. She loved her family dearly and was immensely proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. She was loved by many friends and caretakers.

Mrs. Yergin is survived by her daughter, Patricia Byars Rowan (Wayne) of Kenton, TN; granddaughters, Missi Hardin (Rodney) of Lexington, TN, Meredith Shelton (Jeff) of Mt. Juliet, TN; great grandchildren, Ben Coleman (Lindsey) of Columbia, SC, Matthew Coleman of Myrtle Beach, SC, Jacob Shelton of Mt. Juliet, TN, Grace Coleman of Lexington, TN, Claire Shelton of Mt. Juliet, TN;  brother, James (Sonny) Cooper of Dyer, TN; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Mack Yergin; her parents, James T. and Ruby Prince Cooper; sister, Brenda Jane Cooper; and brother, Gene Cooper.

Services will be held at Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Rutherford, TN.

Visitation will be from 9:00am-11:00am. Service will be at 11:00am.

Officiants: Rev. Wayne Rowan, Rev. Andy Rice and Rev. Johnny Witherspoon.

Pallbearers: Jeff Shelton, Jacob Shelton, Rodney Hardin, Ben Coleman, Matthew Coleman, Jimmy Cooper, Russell Yergin.

Interment will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
