Richard Daryll Thornton, age 87 of Kenton, Tennessee, passed away from this life on Sunday, October 8, 2017, at the Tennessee State Veterans Home. Graveside services for Mr. Thornton will be conducted on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Dyer, with Bro. Steve Skelton officiating. Visitation for Mr. Thornton will be held Friday, October 13, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. in the chapel of Karnes and Son Funeral Home in Dyer. Mr. Thornton was born September 20, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois; the son of the late Bates and Mable White Thornton. Mr. Thornton worked in the Final Finish Dept. at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Mfg., where he retired. He was a member of Laneview Baptist Church since 1997, and was a 32-degree Mason. He served his country with the US Army during the Korean War. Military honors will be observed at the cemetery for Mr. Thornton. Mr. Thornton is survived by his wife of 66 years Fredia Boyd Thornton, whom he married March 24, 1951; one daughter, Phyllis Thornton Crenshaw and husband Gordon, of Kenton; two sons, Ronald Thornton and wife Sally, of Hohenwald, TN, and Mark Thornton, of Kenton; five grandchildren, Brent Alan Thornton of Nashville, Christopher Todd Crenshaw and Nicholas Andrew Crenshaw of Florence, KY, Amber Nicole Thornton Tritt and husband Darrin of Alamo, Al Craig Thornton of Dyer; and two great - grandchildren, Thornton Michael Tritt, and Mykayla Crenshaw. Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by one son, Michael Lee Thornton; and sibling, Mary Elizabeth Thornton Landrum. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to either: Hohenwald Methodist Church, Hohenwald, TN, in honor of Ronnie & Sally Thornton, or Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Dyer, TN, in honor of Phyllis & Gordon Crenshaw. Karnes & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Richard Daryll Thornton.
