Sylvia Juanita Fisher was welcomed into her Heavenly home on Friday, July 5, 2024, at the age of 94. She was born February 25, 1930, in Bradford, Tennessee. Later she moved to Dyer where she resided most of her life. She was a resident of St. Bernard’s Village in Jonesboro, Arkansas at the time of her passing. Sylvia was the daughter of the late Cleatus Woods and Audrey B. Woods.
Sylvia was a dedicated and caring wife to the late Raymond Fisher. They were married on July 19, 1947, and spent almost 59 years together. She was a loving mother to four children, Terry of Dyer, David (Sherry) of Dyer, Debbie of Savannah, and Sandy (Rob) of Jonesboro, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her two sons. Sylvia had four grandchildren, Stephanie, Ashley, Luke, and Lyndsey; four great-grandchildren, Carson, Halle, Ireland, and Finick; and several nieces and nephews. She was the oldest of eight siblings, the late Tom (Rebecca Sue) Woods, the late Shirley (Mac) McGill, Becky (Billy) George, Bill (Betty) Woods, the late June (Ikey) Witherspoon, Martha Ellen (Preston) Roberts, and Cleatus Jr. (Reba) Woods.
Sylvia enjoyed working in the garden with Raymond. Their garden was known as the “Garden Spot of the World.” She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dyer, Tennessee, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She retired from Brown Shoe Factory after 39 years of service. She worked hard all her life and cared deeply for others. She was strong in her faith and will be deeply missed.
Services for Sylvia Fisher will be held Monday, July 8, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church in Dyer, Tennessee with Reverend Brent Porterfield officiating and Terry Denton delivering the message. The visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. The service will follow immediately. Sylvia will be buried at the Good Hope Cemetery south of Dyer. The family requests that memorials be made to the Good Hope Cemetery Fund c/o Rita Tilley at 410 Old Dyersburg Road, Dyer, Tennessee 38330.
