Virginia Anne Poope November 10, 1929 - October 5, 2018 Virginia Anne Pope, age 88 of Yorkville, Tennessee, passed away from this life Friday, October 5, 2018 at the Dyer Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. Anne Pope was born Sunday, November 10, 1929, in Yorkville, Tennessee, to Opie Pope and Juanita Baker Pope. Ms. Pope was a life-long resident of Yorkville. She graduated from Yorkville High School, attended UT Junior College at Martin and later earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degree at the University of Tenessee Knoxville. She began her teaching career at Spring Hill High School in 1951, before becoming an Associate Professor of Home Economics teaching Textiles and Clothing at the University of Tennessee at Martin until her retirement in 1986. She enjoyed a second career in creating custom made draperies for the public. During retirement, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, and flower arrangements, as well as spending time with her great -nieces and nephews, traveling with friends, working in her flower beds, and researching family history. Ms. Pope was a member of the Doris Chapel Church of Christ at Spring Hill. She was an active member of the Retired Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She is preceded in death by her parents, Opie and Juanita Pope. She is survived by her brother Joe Pope (Carolyn), nephew, Franklin Pope(Dawn), niece, Carol Anne Austin(Jeff), and five great-nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Ms. Pope will be 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 7, in the chapel of Karnes and Son Funeral Home in Dyer with Tim Fuqua officiating. Interment will follow at Yorkville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 6 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Karnes and Son Funeral Home.
